Excellence – Always doing your personal best and being persistent

Respect – Using your manners, showing care and listening to others

Our students are supported in an environment displaying high and positive expectations with many opportunities for participation, leadership, goal setting, autonomy and development of social and emotional skills. Together we share the responsibility for encouraging our students to take on the school values in every aspect of the school day.

Student Welfare

Park Orchards Primary School is committed to providing a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment, where risk of harm is minimised and students feel physically and emotionally secure to reach their full potential. Our school acknowledges that student welfare and student learning outcomes are inextricably linked and that, within our school community, students have a wide range of needs that require additional support.

PREVENTION AND EARLY INTERVENTION STRATEGIES THE SCHOOL WILL DEPLOY INCLUDE:

Student Leadership

We believe developing responsibility, reliability, organisational skills and confidence are important skills for all students at POPS to acquire.

All year 6 students are able to nominate themselves for School and House Captain roles or Technology, Sustainability, Library, Office and Canteen teams. They meet regularly with our school principal to discuss and brainstorm ideas for our school.

Year 5 students have the important leadership role of being buddies to a foundation student. Their responsibilities include getting to know their buddy, showing their little buddy different areas of the school, encouraging them to develop friendships with other foundation children and modelling positive play ground behaviours and school routines.

Students from years 1- 6 have the opportunity to participate in the Student Representative Council (SRC). The SRC attend lunchtime meetings every second week, help organise fundraisers for charities, run ‘Aussie of the Month’ assemblies, set a good example to the rest of the school and collect ideas for school improvement from other students.

A Place of Many Achievements

To celebrate over 50 years of education, a publication has been produced titled “A Place of Many Achievements”, this book encapsulates both the story and ethos of the school. The author, Claire Levi, historian and past parent has described the spirit of the school with clarity, empathy and scholarship.

It all began many years ago in 1951 and in 1959 a petition with 71 signatures was presented to the Minister for Education “respectfully requesting the establishment of a Primary School in Park Orchards”. On 14 March 1961 the school doors were opened for the first time on one small block of four classrooms but the official ceremony would not occur for eighteen months.

Park Orchards Primary School continues to be focussed on educational improvement and rigor. These improvements have led to its excellent academic reputation and current high levels of student achievement. Students and teachers continue to be interested in learning and challenging themselves to achieve their utmost.
